Do You Listen to the Lyrics or the Tune?

Do you listen to songs because of the lyrics or the tune and melody?


For me, I go for the tune, melody and rhythm. Lyrics don't matter so much for me.

But for me, most songs with a good tune usually come with good or decent lyrics.

Mainly the tune for me because most of the songs I listen to aren't English and I don't understand what they are saying. However, if it is a good song then I will either listen carefully or look up what the lyrics are.

Personally, the tune has to be catchy. Followed by a good rhythm and melody line. The lyrics come in last, but are important. The lyrics must make sense and have some kind of meaning to them.

All aspects of the song are important, but the tune (rhythm and melody lines) are a little more important to me. As a songwriter, I try to keep those things in mind when I write.

Unless the song actually means something i just listen to the tune and melody
