Wireless connections

I connected my NetGear 2000 modem to my desktop and all is working fine. When I try to use my laptop, I connect to the internet but my browser does not open. It just spins and says connecting. Was I supposed to do something to my laptop to make it compatable with the router?

What type of connection are you establishing between your laptop and modem? Wireless or wired?

Can you try a wired connection and see if it works? If it doesn't let me know.

Also, what browser are you using? Have you tried using other browsers?

It works fine with my other internet connection. (dial up) I haven't tried hooking up the cable modem. That was part of my question. Am I supposed to figure a new connection? The reason I ask is because it finds the wireless connection and tells me it is connected. I have not tried other browsers but I have tried other programs that need an internet connection, like on-line banking, and the same thing happens. I just get a message "connecting."
