I am connected but can not browse...

Ok, I have a hp laptop that has been working great until 3 days ago. Now I show I am connected but I am unable to browse. It shows there are no problems with my internet connection but I am still unable to browse. Please any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Open CMD, Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart your PC.

If it doesn't work, download Winsock XP Fix from here, save it to your Desktop.

Double click on the exe on your Desktop.
Press the "Fix" button, then restart again.

See if you can connect now.

Ok, my computer states is does not recognize the command netch int ip reset.log. I cannot go to the http address you provided because I can not use my web browser. Any other suggestions. Thanks so much for your help.

Dr Inferno's solution of the 2 commands works! Just spell it correctly, or maybe copy/paste, and I was up and connected wireless immediately after restart. Next, I'm going to research those commands and find out exactly what happened!

Win XPhe, SP2 but loading SP3 now.
This laptop comes from a friend of a friend etc, who couldn't connect wireless, and I got it up on the first try.

OK so I checked typing x3 times with this e-mail and I am still unable to browse. Any more suggestions. I can not cut and past because I can not pull up my hot mail account on that computer.

Chanman, How about trying this:
1) Go to a command prompt by clicking the start menu, then run, & typing cmd;
2) type ping www.google.com
3) You should get either 4 packets of 32 bytes of data received or a request timed out. What were the results?
4) If u got a timeout, then while still at your command prompt, type
ipconfig /all > myconfig.txt
5) That creates a file called ipconfig.txt. Please paste its contents into an email & post it to this topic so we can have a look.
