Good evening. I have gotten the System Security virus. I have read several posts on how to get rid of this virus. My problem is that I cannot start any program. I cannot access the internet, and no program that I try to start will execute. Since I cannot access the internet, I am trying to download the files on another computer, then use a USB drive to try and execute them. All with no success. so where should I go from here?

I've tried to download and execute malwarebytes, combo-fix, windows malicious software removal tool. I even tried to do a ctrl-alt-delete on startup and stop the process, but before I can stop it, the system completely starts, then no other programs will start.

Any ideas?

OK,

Now I cannot get the computer to start in normal mode, only safe mode. The screen comes up black, and the mouse is locked up.

Any ideas??

Hello.
Did you rename MBAM to get it to run? the rootkit present shouldn't allow you to run MBAM normally.

Although, now MBAM has removed the rootkit, still having problems?

descriptionSystem Security - new hijack this info & malwarebytes info EmptyRe: System Security - new hijack this info & malwarebytes info

I did rename the mbam program. It seems like everything is OK at the moment. I am presently running malwarebytes again, and have run the hijack this again. I will post both results back here once they are done.

If you notice anything else in either report, please let me know. But for now, it seems OK.

I have downloaded and run Avira, which found several items that I have cleaned up. What do you feel are the best anti-virus, spyware programs? There are so many, and they seem so similar in many ways.

Hello.
Before we get to the prevention stage, I want one more scan to make sure there are no files left behind from the rootkit.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

Hello.
You still have a few problems left. Indifferent or Blank

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

    J2SE Runtime Environment 5 update 6
    Java(TM) 6 update 1
    Java(TM) 6 update 3

Second, Avira is outdated and disabled. Please en-able it, then update it, otherwise the malware will probably come back since you aren't keeping your machine safe by having an upto date antivirus.

Now we just need to remove some leftovers.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: HERE

  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Drivers to disable:
dkpqub
dnopye
pxnuwsvv
rqzxzkcs
pcmstub

Drivers to delete:
dkpqub
dnopye
pxnuwsvv
rqzxzkcs
pcmstub

Files to delete:
C:\p2hhr.bat

Folders to delete:
c:\docume~1\alluse~1\applic~1\17279534

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

I have downloaded avenger, and it has re-booted the computer. I have a blank screen, with a cursor only. The hard drive light is is not doing anything.

Since the computer is sitting on a blank screen with nothing happening, should I turn it off and restart it? (I'm actually using another computer to write this)

It has been quite awhile, and the computer is still sitting with a blank screen.

Reboot it manually if needed. Smile...

I had to reboot a couple of times for it to come back up. It has finally come back up, but I do not see the log file. Should I try the avenger again?

No.
See if the log is saved here:
C:\avenger.txt
