So I got a virus which redirects me to different web pages when I use google search. I have been researching it online and none of the removal methods are working for me. Here is why.

Method 1 - Use Malwarebytes - Anti Malware (scan in safe mode) The problem is that none of my anti-malware/spyware programs will run, they just sit idle in the process list. I do not know why.

Method 2 -

Click Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices.

* Scroll down to “Non-plug and Play Drivers” and click the plus icon to open those drivers.
* Then search for TDSSserv.sys
* Let me know if you find this or not.
* If you do find it, right click on it, and select Disable.
* Also if this is found and you disable it, then just immediately reboot.

My problem here is that TDSSserv.sys is nowhere to be seen!

I really don't want to resort to formatting my HDd. Please help.

Thanks.

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

The Hijack-this install .exe is also just hanging in the process list.

Ofcourse! Such an obvious thing. I renamed malwarebytes' anti-malware to a different name and it ran. Thanks. Smile...

Here is the MBAM logfile. I ran it yesterday and it seemed to have gotten rid of the virus until I restarted, then it had came back. So I ran a scan in safe mode today. I'm hoping it won't come back now.

Hello.
It's gonna keep coming back, mainly because there's a rootkit present, and you have an very old database in MBAM, you need to update it.

Before I can do anything, I need a Hijack This log.

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1
    Link 2

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    web-analytics.google.com virus. Needing help. CF_download_FF

    web-analytics.google.com virus. Needing help. CF_download_rename

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See HERE for how to disable your AV. (Norton)
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

    web-analytics.google.com virus. Needing help. Rcauto10

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

    web-analytics.google.com virus. Needing help. Whatne10

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Save this as CFscript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFscript.txt into combofix as seen below:
web-analytics.google.com virus. Needing help. Sfxdaw

This will open combofix again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run.
It may want to reboot after it's done. (It will warn you if it wants to)
Post the resulting log back here.
