Hi guys,

Seemed to have currupted my copy of kaspersky, PC was turned off mid full scan, when pc boots up Kaspersky sows up as ikon but does not operate, if you hold cursor over icon it says scanning start up files, it never comes out of this mode. Have tried removing so that i can reload software, it appears to be unistalling unil it stops at removing utilities.
Can you help me unistall or recover software. I have tried restoring to 1 week ago, no different

Thanks bruce davey

Hello,

Let's try to use a tool to completely remove it. Download vremover9:

http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/products2009/kavremover9.zip

The product check can be skipped at the command line in case there are traces left on the system of a Kaspersky product that the check did not discover automatically.

The syntax would be to run kavremover9.exe and add the product that should be removed as a parameter. Here is the parameter list:

* kav6
* kav7
* kav2009
* kav2009×64
* kis6
* kis7
* kis2009
* kis2009×64
* kav6fs
* kav6wks

Example command:

Code:

    kavremover9.exe kav2009

Great followed your advice, Kaspersky now removed.

1 problem solved next appears, in trying to reload 1st from disc (Kaspersky ver 7) tells me repeatedly i need to reboot my computer prior to installation, I do nothing happens. Secondly I tried to dowload trial copy from Kaspersky site, gets a fair way into the installation, then tells me to remove AVG8 prior to installation. I removed this over a year ago, prior to changing to Kasperky, i quess there are still elements on the disc, even though they do not show in the program add/remove screen.

thanks bruce

Hello,

Follow the instructions on how to completely remove AVG in the same link above.

did as you said, keep saying kaspersky not present, did a restore back to 8/6/9, the day my troubles started, kaspersky v7 then loaded, it is now running, still wont allow me to update to 2009 as says I have AVG8 present, not so as per previous post. Not fussy about kaspersky 2009 on this machine (windowa XP) as the banner regarding Kaspersky 2009 says it no longer supports XP and earlier versions, so dont see the point in upgrading. Am i missing the point here ?. Thanks for your help objective achieved, but i am still puzzled

Thanks Bruce Davey

Hi,

This will fix the issue saying that AVG is present on the system.

  • Now open a new notepad file.
  • Input this into the notepad file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\AVG8Uninstall]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AVG\Avg8]

  • Save this as fix.reg, save it to your desktop.
  • Double click fix.reg to run it.
  • Select yes to the registry merge prompt.

If Kaspersky is too much trouble, just get another free AV, like Avira for example.

Thanks for your help, i will donate.
I did not mean to indicate i did not want to bother with kaspersky, i like it.
what i meant to indicate that should i bother with version 2009 if it did not support windows XP

It's suprising that KIS is trying to stop it being used on XP, esp since a lot of people still use XP.

It's up to you if you want to bother with it, I'm just giving you choices of switching.
