delete Antivirus Gold
A blank screen pop-ed up stating that my PC is in danger. It appeared when I visited a Web site called AV Gold, and won’t go away. When I click the Removal Instructions link, it takes me to its site. Can anyone help?

Re: delete Antivirus Gold
AV Gold hijacks your desktop by altering the Registry to place a HTML file installed on your PC over the desktop. Removing the pest is a lengthy process (see www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/How_to_remove_Antivirus_Gold_or_AVGold-t22397.html).
The other problem with the AVGold infection is that it’s usually installed in tandem with three other infections: SpySheriff, AdwareDelete and Smitfraud. Thankfully, the page links to removal instructions for all three.
However, your desktop will still be covered by a blank white space where the ad previously sat, and you won’t have access to the Display Control Panel. This is because you need to remove a Registry entry that basically hijacks the desktop for the now non-existent screen.html file.
Click Start > Run, type regedit and press [Return]. Browse to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components. Ordinarily there will be one sub-key called 0 here, but you’ll probably find another called 1. Right-click this and delete it. Restart your PC and the blank screen will finally be gone and your desktop back to normal.
