Security Tool Removal

Post by jalatham on Mon 19 Oct 2009, 1:29 pm

Does it always take forever to scan Malwarebytes Anti-Malware? I scanned my computer for 10 hours last night and it was still scanning. I don't think I have that much stuff on it! I am trying to get rid of this "Security Tool" virus (or whatever it is). It's annoying and I've been trying to remove it for 4 days now. I'm getting a little frustrated. I restartedt he Malwarebytes again thinking it my not take as long again, but I don't know. Anyone have any answers or a quicker way to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Security Tool Removal

Post by trout921 on Wed 28 Oct 2009, 5:48 pm

I found it necessary to go into task manager (Windows XP) and actually stop the Security Tool program. Not only is it malicious but it also protects itself from removal. I suspect that if anyone is having trouble with Malware Bytes that the program "Security Tool" is stopping its removal. Under processes in task manager look for an 8 digit number (the first two numbers on my wife's computer were 34) and stop that process. I found that this program had corrupted her antivirus and I had to remove it and reload it (Antivir). It had also corrupted Malware Bytes which was on her computer. With the process shut down for Security Tool, I was able to make the necessary uninstall and uploads of programs to remove this nasty program from her computer...

How can I remove the program if I cannot open task manager or Internet Explorer? The Security Tool program has infected our desktop, which is why I was searching for solutions using my laptop. I cannot get task manager or Internet Explorer to open, so I am assuming that Security Tool is the cause for these malfunctions. How do I stop the process long enough to download Malware Bytes?

Reboot your pc and press Ctrl+ALt+Delete as soon as it logs in. This is critical to get to the task master before the security tool boots in. Then you will be able to stop the security tool process. which is most probably a series of numbers followed by .exe then you will be able to remove it by a third party spyware remover. Hope this helps

Thanks for nothing! This not only did nothing to help get that POS SecurityTool off my computer, but seems to have increased the popups. Maybe you computer geeks should be selling insurance or better yet, run for congress!

You can also run in safe mode and do a system restore to a date before you had it... :-)
