After some tests, Chrome(71ms) seems to be 6 times faster than Firefox 3(438ms). Opera being the same speed as Firefox 3. IE 6 Being the slowest of them all is 3 times slower than Firefox 3, that's 1281ms. IE 7 had a slightly better time getting 983ms. With TraceMonkey enabled in v3.1. It did 2 time better of 243ms.
Conclusion, Chrome is still the fastest browser, but Firefox still has hope. Don't bother about IE.
This test was done on a rather slow machine, so your might perform faster.

Opera Average time: 264ms
Safari Average time: 269ms
Firefox Average Time: 293ms
IE7 Average time: 1050ms

I prefer Firefox for normal browsing and Chrome for trusted sites.

Maybe, this is a JavaScript test, so maybe there's a chance that Firefox is faster in other areas, but I doubt so.
