recomended firewall

hello,

i am setting up a laptop for my uncle, and i am wondering if you could suggest a FREE firewall that i can install for him, that wll do the job better than windows firewall.

Is Outpost a lenient firewall?
My current one blocks Network and Homegroup computers, and I don't have the heart to find which rules I have to added to let it pass.
